Trumpet

Note: The trumpet is not a traditional Shona instrument. Included here as an afterthought, representing the brass heraldry of mid-century urban Zimbabwean dance halls.

The Brass Herald Tale

Forged from molten colonial shell casings repurposed into valve horns, the trumpet initially blasted harsh orders across government gates. But Sekuru Gore’s elders melted its militaristic ego with palm wine, teaching it to mimic the clear, piercing call of the hungwe bird over the Zambezi valley.
